           Celebrating 100 years of cycling

La Pyrénéenne 2010 is the precursor for two of the most exciting events in this year’s cycling calendar: the centenary of the Col de Tourmalet’s inclusion in the Tour de France, and the finish of the Mondovelo 2010 Etape du Tour on this legendary Col.

Heralding these two events, La Pyrénéenne invites cyclists to challenge themselves on the high mountain pass of the Pyrénées. Riders will be following champions like Octave Lapize, the first Tour de France rider over Col du Tourmalet, and Eugène Christophe, forced to walk his bike, with its broken forks, to a blacksmith at Saint Marie de Campan, to repair them before famously completing the Stage in 1913.

Origin of the Event

This Cyclosportive is the result of the collaboration of three towns, Argelès-Gazost, Bagnères-de-Bigorre and Saint Lary-Soulon. It is a celebration of the region’s strong cycling heritage in the rugged and untamed beauty of three magnificent Pyrenean valleys - Aure, Campan and Lavedan.

This year, Bagnères-de-Bigorre has the honour of hosting the Event. It consists of two courses. The demanding Four Valleys course is 174kms and covers the Tourmalet (west-side), Aspin (west-side) and Hourquette d’Ancizan for 3500m of climbing. The Two Valleys course is 100kms and gives riders the challenge of Tourmalet’s west-side climb and 2000m of climbing!
